MSN Adds "Beta" Results
Every search engine optimization specialist has been eagerly awaiting the final release of msn’s new “beta” search engine. What they didn’t know is that it has already been released, and is currently filling msn.com with search results!
What we had already learned from our independent research, was that msnbot was all over the web. It was indexing millions of new pages, and getting ready for the big switch. We noticed in the fourth quarter of 2004, the results pages for msn.com started to contradict those from yahoo.com more than usual. The difference was not significant at first but continued to grow, and was still worth some investigation.
After much research, we concluded that msn.com was in fact pulling results from a source that had not existed in the past. After cross referencing our findings with beta.search.msn.com we concluded that these new results were in fact coming from the new beta msn search engine.
Using newly indexed sites as a cross reference for older domains in beta msn search, we were able to determine how this new algorithm is different, and how it is similar to Googlebot, and SLURP.
After discovering that msn’s algorithm was no longer acting like Yahoo’s algorithm we decided to contact our sources at msn for more information. Titan SEO was able to setup a meeting to discuss the changes with msn at the recent CES show in Las Vegas Nevada. We spoke with an msn employee who informed us of the new changes that msn recently made to msn.com and their search engine.
The msn employee confirmed that msn has already started to implement its new search technology into the msn.com search engine. She also stated that msn’s search engine is no longer only powered by Yahoo! search results and that msn would continue to ramp up their beta search engines results into msn.com.
What does this mean for the search engine marketing and optimization industry? For starters, msn.com has about a 15% market share of the search engine market. It may not be as large as googles, but it is still a very powerful marketing tool, and should be exploited to the fullest extent! What this means now, is that there are new opportunities in the ever changing search engine marketing industry for more exposure, and better rankings with msn.com.
